Ex-MLB Exec Criticizes Fisher, Vegas Newspaper for Softball Interview

An ex-MLB executive harshly criticized A's owner John Fisher for taking part in "softball interviews" in which Fisher was dishonest with his answers. The first interview was with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, with which Fisher broke a years-long media silence.

The ex-exec, David P. Samson, took time from his podcast "Nothing Personal" to also give a blistering critique on the softball interview between Vegas reporter Mick Akers and A's owner John Fisher, which appeared earlier this week in the Las Vegas Review Journal.

In a 12-minute "Nothing Personal" clip from Thursday, Samson said:

"I don’t want to disparage any newspapers. I love the business I’m in, I love the media. But talk about sucking up to an owner! The Las Vegas Review Journal printed a Q&A, and the Qs were the biggest bunch of pre-approved softballs you’re ever gonna see. No follow-ups. No questioning anything he said. These were all rehearsed and ready-to-roll!"

Samson then said Fisher was lying in the interview when he told Akers that he has apologized to Raiders owner Mark Davis for how they failed to get along as neighbors when they were both in Oakland.

Samson said he's not buying that story at all, adding:

It's absolute horse hockey. It really is. It puts the poppy in poppycock!

Will Fisher's lack of credibility with the media and pundits like Samson hurt his chances to gain approval from MLB owners to relocate the A's from Vegas?

Stay tuned!
